OPC Server Selection

The first step of any project of OPC Data Acquisition is the OPC Server selection.

Genesis OPC Explorer 2.0 provides four ways to select an OPC Server:
  1. Selection of a Local OPC Server (either OPCEnum or Registry Lookup)
  2. Selection of a Network OPC Server (Standard Windows Network Browsing)
  3. Selection of an OPC Server from Direct Host Selection
  4. Direct Selection of an OPC Server (giving OPC Server Id and Server GUID)
Start OPC Server Selection

Select the Genesis OPC Server View (click here to get details on activation of Genesis OPC Server View)
Two methods are available to start the OPC Server Selection
  • Click on the Ribbon Button 'Select OPC Server in the Ribbon Tab 'OPC Server'

  • Select OPC Server from Ribbon

  • Right-Click the Item labeled 'No OPC Server Selected' in the 'OPC Server Setup' Tree Control and Select the menu 'Select OPC Server'

  • Select OPC Server from Context Menu

Note the check boxes to select the ways to browse the OPC Servers: OPCEnum.exe or Windows Regsitry.

Expand the Item 'Local Host' to get the list of OPC Server available on the local computer. Note the name between parenthesis.

Select the OPC Server using the mouse. The OPC Server attributes (Host Name, OPC Server Id and OPC Servr GUID) will be displayed at the bottom of the dialog box. At that time, the 'Ok' button is enabled. The OPC Server Selection can be confirmed by clicking the 'Ok' button.
